In 1926 AD, Jonathan Carnahan presents his sister Evelyn—a librarian and aspiring Egyptologist—with an intricate box and map that lead to Hamunaptra. Jonathan reveals he stole the box from an American adventurer, Rick O’Connell, who discovered the city while in the French Foreign Legion. Evelyn and Jonathan find Rick and make a deal with him to lead them to the city.

Rick guides Evelyn and her party to the city, encountering a band of American treasure hunters led by Rick’s cowardly acquaintance Beni Gabor. Despite being warned to leave by Ardeth Bay, leader of the Medjai, the two expeditions continue their excavations. Evelyn searches for the Book of Amun-Ra, made of pure gold. Instead of finding it, she stumbles upon Imhotep’s remains. The team of Americans, meanwhile, discover the black Book of the Dead, accompanied by canopic jars carrying Anck-su-namun’s preserved organs.

At night, Evelyn reads from the Book of the Dead aloud, accidentally awakening Imhotep. The expeditions return to Cairo, and Imhotep follows them with the help of Beni, who has agreed to serve him. He regenerates his full strength by killing the members of the American expedition and brings the ten plagues back to Egypt.

Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathan meet Ardeth at a museum, who hypothesizes that Imhotep wants to resurrect Anck-su-namun by sacrificing Evelyn. She believes that if the Book of the Dead brought Imhotep back to life, the Book of Amun-Ra can kill him again and deduces the book’s whereabouts in Hamunaptra. Imhotep corners the group with an army of slaves. Evelyn agrees to accompany him if he spares the rest of the group. Although Imhotep does not honor his word, Rick and the others fight their way to safety.

Imhotep, Evelyn, and Beni return to Hamunaptra, pursued by Rick, Jonathan, and Ardeth, who are able to locate the Book of Amun-Ra. Imhotep prepares to sacrifice Evelyn, but she is rescued after a battle with Imhotep’s mummified priests. Evelyn reads from the Book of Amun-Ra, making Imhotep mortal, and he is fatally wounded by Rick.

Beni accidentally sets off a booby trap while looting the city of its riches, and is killed by a swarm of flesh-eating scarabs as Hamunaptra collapses into the sand. Ardeth bids Rick, Evelyn, and Jonathan goodbye, and the trio rides away on a pair of camels laden with Beni’s treasure.

Clueless, Afreen is unable to find Sita without any details. Upon getting an idea, she goes in search of Ram instead and learns about the address of Lt. Vikas Varma, who was in Ram’s regiment, in Kashmir. Upon meeting Vikas, Afreen meets Ram’s friend Durjoy Sharma and superior Vishnu Sharma and learns about Ram’s story.

In 1964, Ansari, who sent teenagers to Kashmir, gives them the whereabouts of the Indian Army. After learning about them, Major Selvan orders the army to catch and kill the Pakistani teenagers, as they can compromise the safety of the Indians, in Kashmir. However, their plan backfires as Kashmiri Muslims, in the area, who thought of the youngsters as their own, attacked every soldier responsible for killing the youngsters. Knowing this would happen, Ansari steps over into Kashmir and brainwashes the Kashmiri Muslims. The enraged Muslims set fire to the houses of Kashmiri Pandits in Agarta. Aware that they are under the influence of Ansari, Ram tries to stop them, where he captures the informer and reveals the truth to the Kashmiri Muslims. After learning the truth, they apologize for trying to incite a religious riot and help the Indian Army in putting out the fires.

This incident becomes national news, and Ram and his fellow regiment mates become national heroes. Vijayalakshmi, an investigative journalist arrives to interview them, through which she learns that Ram is an orphan. The next day, on the radio, she tells everybody about Ram and asks everyone in India to send their love to him. As a result, Ram receives a lot of letters from people across India, acknowledging him as their brother and son. He is overjoyed to know that he has a big family and starts writing letters to reply to all of them. One of them is a letter, written by Sita Mahalakshmi, addressing him as her husband. Ram is surprised and regularly receives letters from her with no address. One day, Vikas and Ram take the same train as Sita, based on the minute details provided by her in the letters and searches the entire train. He repeats a riddle, written in her letter so that she can recognize him and gives her his friend’s landline number and leaves the train.

Lo’ak gets into a fight with Tsireya’s brother Aonung. When he returns to apologize at Jake’s insistence, Aonung and his friends entice him to a trip into the territory of a dangerous sea predator and leave him stranded. Lo’ak is saved by and befriends Payakan, a tulkun, an intelligent and pacifistic cetacean species whom the Metkayina consider their spiritual family. Upon his return, Lo’ak takes the blame on himself, winning Aonung’s friendship, but is told that Payakan is an outcast among his species. On a trip to the Metkayina’s Tree of Souls, Kiri links with it to meet her mother, but suffers a violent seizure. She is healed by Ronal, but when Jake calls Norm Spellman and Max Patel for help, Quaritch is able to track them to the archipelago where the reef people live. Bringing Spider with him, he commandeers a whaling vessel which is hunting tulkuns to harvest their brain enzymes for creating anti-aging remedies. Quaritch begins to brutally question the indigenous tribes about Jake’s location; failing that, he orders the whaling crew to wantonly kill the tulkuns in order to draw Jake out. Lo’ak mentally links with Payakan and learns that the tulkun was cast out because he went against the ways of his species and attacked the whalers who killed his mother.
